And YouTube TV offers a unique combination of features that make it very compelling, so much so that it's now the #1 service in the US in terms of number of paid subscribers, with some5 million subscribers in June 2022– around 2 million more since the service was last updated in October 2020. The popularity is due to a number of factors. YouTube TV is easy to use. It has a channel selection that is competitive with all of its competitors. And the price of YouTube TV is also competitive. You can watch YouTube TV on almost any modern device. And the fact that parent company Alphabet (aka Google) has made the most of it in recent years certainly hasn't hurt either.
It's also one of the few options if you want to stream any kind of live TV in 4K resolution. More on that in a minute.

What is YouTubeTV?
In short, YouTube TV is a live TV streaming service available in the United States. It's a replacement for a cable or satellite service that streams over the Internet, available on phones, tablets, TVs, and web browsers, and lets you watch TV like you always have, wherever you are with an Internet connection—at home. or in motion.
YouTube TV was limited to a relatively small number of US locations when it launched in 2017. That changed in 2019 when abig reachAdded support for all 210 markets. It has also greatly expanded its channel collection over the years. YouTube TV now has over 110 channels, including the big four national networks: ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. (As with all streaming services, actual availability may vary slightly where you live, so check your zip code).
The line between YouTube TV and YouTube is still pretty clear. You'll see some of the same markings, which makes sense. And YouTube TV is a subdomain of YouTube itself, but you still don't see things like featured YouTubers or YouTube shorts that live alongside ESPN and CNN.
However, you can find recommendations for movies and shows that can be rented or purchased on YouTube. Like I said, the lines are there, but they're getting blurrier.
Your biggest competition is comingchoose between YouTube TV and Hulu with live TV.

YouTube TV channels
In general, YouTube TV has as competitive a range of channels, both linear and non-linear (meaning something different from what you might find on traditional cable), as any comparable offering. Notably, that means Hulu With Live TV, the only other streaming service with nearly as many subscribers as YouTube TV.
As always, the devil is in the details. If YouTube TV has the channel you want, great! If not, you'll have to look elsewhere. And okay, that's how the competition works.

YouTube TV y 4K
One of the best things about YouTube TV is that it is one of the easiest streaming services to use. And it should be, since it comes from the people who also run the world's largest streaming video service. (That would be YouTube.)
You have control over all sorts of things, including the streaming resolution. While 99% of the time you'll want to leave things on Automatic, you can also lower the streaming resolution if you'd like. This also makes it easy to see what's streaming in 720p or 1080p. Most of the time it will be the former, especially when it comes to live sports at 60 frames per second. But we are seeing more and more videos in 1080p, which is good.
You also canWatch YouTube TV in 4K. Sometimes.
YouTube TV is one of the few live streaming services in the US that offers live content in 4K resolution. (The other is FuboTV). On the live end, you'll find events from ESPN, Fox Sports, and NBC Sports. There's also quite a bit of on-demand fare at 4K resolution. You'll find 4K streams from Discovery, FX, Nat Geo, and Tastemade.
Overall, YouTube TV video is pretty much comparable to other live services. You may get a lower resolution for a few seconds before the buffer fills up and reaches its maximum capacity. And it all depends on the strength of your home network and the speed of your ISP, plus how YouTube TV and its content providers deliver the show, movie or sport in the first place. There are a lot of moving parts here. It's also important to note that 4K streaming isn't available on all pieces of hardware. But so far, you can still watch it on Chromecast with Google TV, 4K-enabled Roku devices, Apple TV 4K 2021 model (2017 model will have upscaled resolution but not full 4K), Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, NVIDIA Shield, and 4K Android TV Smart television.
YouTube TV y NFL Sunday Ticket
Starting with the 2023-24 season, YouTube TV (as well as YouTube itself) will be the home of the NFL Sunday Ticket. It's an optional subscription that gives you access to all sold-out games so you don't have to resort to… other means… to see them.
While we don't yet know how much the NFL Sunday Ticket will cost, we do know that there is a discount if you subscribe to YouTube TV compared to the main YouTube channels. For comparison, an entire season of NFL Sunday Ticket costs $300 or $400 per season on DirecTV. We may see other subscription options as well, but we'll have to wait for more details on those.
NFL Red Zone, basically a live game recap channel for scoring opportunities, will also be available, but it will be an additional optional subscription, just like all the other add-ons. What this will cost has yet to be determined.
What can you use to watch YouTube TV?
The short answer here is that if you have a relatively modern phone, tablet, TV or computer, you can more than likely be able to use it to watch YouTube TV.
Mobile is easy: YouTube TV is available on Android (as long as you have access to Google apps) as well as iPhone. This also applies to tablets.
As more smart TVs adopt their own operating systems and apps, YouTube TV follows their availability. Native apps are available on Samsung, LG, Vizio, Hisense, Sharp, and Sony TVs. (And that includes anything that uses Android TV as its operating system.)
Streaming media players are also supported and YouTube TV runs the gamut. It's available on Roku and Amazon Fire TV, which takes care of the two most popular options in the world. YouTube TV is also available onChromecast con Google TVand other older Android TV devices likeNVIDIA-Schild.Apple TVis also supported.
YouTube loves gaming consoles, with the service available on Xbox One via the latest versionXbox-Serie Xand Series S lines. You can also watch YouTube TV natively on PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, and newer.ps5.
You can also watch YouTube TV in a web browser, including Chrome, Firefox and finally, Safari.
And if you're passionate about the connected home, it's easy to watch YouTube TV, too.Google Nest-Hubmihubmax nest.
YouTube TV y Roku
There wasa small tab between Roku and YouTube TVin 2021, it's like going against David against Goliath. The short version is that there was a discussion about Roku's permission to have channels for YouTube and YouTube TV that had something to do with search results on Roku, open source video codecs (or lack thereof) in the system. operating Roku, and who knows. What other thing. It all started in the spring and gonedecided on December 8, 2021, with the two companies signing a multi-year agreement that will keep YouTube on Roku and return the YouTube TV app to the Roku channel store.
It was all a bit ridiculous and unnecessary and thankfully it's over.
YouTube TV features
Being able to watch the same TV channels you've always watched is the key feature of a streaming service like YouTube TV. But he's not the only one. You can also watch shows and movies whenever you want. You can get personalized recommendations, which is much more fun than channel surfing. And that's the bet on the table: YouTube TV can harness the power of the Google Assistant and do other crazy things.
Here are some of the best YouTube TV features that you will definitely want to take advantage of.
unlimited recordings
Of all the features built into YouTube TV, Cloud DVR stands out. And it's not just because it exists: almost every service has the ability to "record" a show or movie and let you play it whenever you want. However, most other services charge an additional fee for the Cloud DVR service, or at least for the additional storage space.
Google, on the other hand, offers unlimited recordings, all for free. As long as you maintain your subscription, you'll keep your recordings for up to nine months. This goes for concerts, movies, live sports, and other events. And YouTube TV is smart about it. Most recordings play one minute after the scheduled end time. Sporting events log an extra 30 minutes by default, and YouTube TV can even detect if things are taking longer and extend it from there.
It's also true recording, which means the ads are recorded as they play live, and that means you can fast-forward them if you want.
Multiple users and multiple devices
YouTube TV is also one of the most flexible options you'll find. By default, you can watch YouTube TV on up to three devices at the same time.
If you subscribe to the 4K Plus add-on, you'll also benefit from unlimited streaming when using your home network.
YouTube TV also allows up to six user profiles on a single account. This is important because it influences recommendations for shows and movies. So you don't need to see your children's recordings and they don't need to see yours. YouTube TV is linked to your Google account and profiles are available to up to five other family membersas specified in your Google account.
By application
Many of the channels that come with a YouTube TV subscription allow you to watch their shows on demand after the first broadcast. It can be a handy way to catch up on previous episodes or seasons that aired before you started recording with the DVR feature. The difference between this and the DVR is that you can't skip the commercials.
voice control
YouTube TV has a nice feature if you have a Google Home speaker like the Google Nest Mini and use a Chromecast device to watch YouTube TV: you can use just your voice to control features like selecting a TV channel for your live streaming shows. , record a show, or use playback features like pause, resume, and rewind.See how to configure it.
Picture-in-picture para celular
One of the best things about mobile video apps is the ability to view images through picture-in-picture. If you're using an Android or iOS device, you can still watch YouTube TV in a minimized window while working on something else in the foreground. It really is a game changer.
Hop
This feature allows you to jump to different segments on select news shows on YouTube TV. Similar to the keyboard screen for sports, some programs allow you to jump to specific news clips within the entire recording. This feature is already available in the TV apps and will soon be coming to mobile devices.
dark mode
YouTube TV experiences for desktop and mobile can choose a darker theme to reduce eye strain.
